Water treatment

Water treatment in Prescott and Yavapai County

Hard water, chlorine taste and private-well chemistry are three different problems with three different fixes. We measure first, then recommend — and we tell you when the answer is that you do not need anything.

How we work

Start with a measurement, not a catalog

Two houses on the same street can test differently if one is on a well. A softener sized for 5 grains per gallon is the wrong machine at 10, and reverse osmosis does nothing for the scale in your water heater. The only way to pick correctly is to know the numbers.

Every estimate includes a free field check: hardness, chlorine and total dissolved solids, read in front of you. That is a screen, not a safety test. When the question is arsenic, bacteria, nitrate or metals, it takes the certified laboratory panel — $185 for 53 parameters.

Certified lab water testing

53 parameters, sampled at your home, with a plain-English walk-through of what each number means. Private wells and city water.

$185Flat rateWhat the panel covers

Under-sink reverse osmosis

Drinking and cooking water at one tap. Removes dissolved solids, arsenic, chlorine taste and most of what a filter pitcher cannot. Faucet hole drilling included.

Reference pricing

Listed, but not currently installed

These are real prices for real systems, published so you can plan and compare. CreekWell is not installing them at the moment — a whole-house installation almost always passes $1,000 once labor and materials are counted, and often needs a permit. Both put it outside what an unlicensed person may legally take on in Arizona.

Water softener

Ion exchange, the standard answer to scale. Most popular build is a 64,000-grain mixed bed.

from $1,799Reference price

Salt-free conditioner

No salt, no drain line, no backwash. Conditions rather than removes hardness.

$2,750Reference price

Whole-house carbon filter

Catalytic carbon for chlorine, chloramine, taste and odor at every tap.

$1,885Reference price

Arsenic removal

Whole-house adsorptive media for wells over the EPA limit.

$4,750Reference price

PFAS removal

Specialist media for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

$3,450Reference price

Complete well system

Sediment, iron, hardness and disinfection as one designed package.

If one of these is what your house needs, we will tell you so and tell you honestly that it is not work we can do today. See the licensing note.

Do I need a softener or a reverse osmosis system?

They solve different problems, and plenty of Prescott homes want both.

A softener treats the whole house: it stops scale on fixtures, in pipes and inside the water heater. Reverse osmosis treats one tap: it makes drinking and cooking water taste right and removes dissolved solids including arsenic. If the complaint is spots, crust and short appliance life, that is hardness. If the complaint is taste or what is dissolved in the water, that is reverse osmosis.

Will a filter pitcher do the same job?

No. A pitcher improves taste and removes some chlorine; it does not remove arsenic, nitrate or dissolved solids.

Reverse osmosis pushes water through a membrane that rejects the great majority of dissolved contaminants. A carbon pitcher adsorbs a much narrower set. For a home on a well with measurable arsenic, the difference is not a matter of degree.

How long does a water test take?

The field check takes a few minutes at the house. The laboratory panel comes back in about a week.

We collect the sample, the lab runs the 53-parameter panel, and then we sit down with the report and go through it. The number that matters is rarely the one people expect.

Not a licensed contractor

Work is performed under the Arizona handyman exemption, A.R.S. § 32-1121(A)(14): any single project is limited to less than $1,000 including labor and materials, and excludes work requiring a building permit and all natural gas and propane work. Neil Staiger has 32 years of Arizona plumbing experience and holds current manufacturer certifications from Moen, Kohler, Navien, Rinnai and Charger Water Treatment Products. More about that. Additional Arizona contractor licenses are in progress.
