Black Canyon City is served by two water systems: the Black Canyon City Water Improvement District and the privately owned Coldwater Canyon Water Company. Both run arsenic treatment and report meeting the federal standard under ADEQ monitoring. That treatment exists for a reason — the groundwater here needs it. In a county where a 33,099-sample peer-reviewed analysis found 43.6% of samples above the EPA’s 10 ppb arsenic limit — second-highest of any Arizona county — that is a meaningful gap.
At 2,083 feet, Black Canyon City is one of the lowest and warmest places in Yavapai County, which changes the plumbing picture: less freeze risk than Prescott, but higher scaling rates on water heaters and more evaporative-cooler and irrigation load on hard water.

Does the flat rate change because I am far from Prescott?
No.
Water treatment and plumbing prices are the same everywhere in Yavapai County — Prescott, Seligman, Black Canyon City, all the same number. There is no trip fee and no travel charge inside the county.
I am on a private well here. What should I test for?
Arsenic first, then bacteria, nitrate, hardness, iron and manganese.

Private wells are not regulated by the EPA or the State of Arizona, so the responsibility is entirely yours — and 43.6% of Yavapai County samples in a peer-reviewed statewide analysis came back over the EPA arsenic limit.
The district treats for arsenic. Do I still need anything?
For arsenic, usually not — both systems treat for it and report meeting the standard.
If you are on the Black Canyon City Water Improvement District or Coldwater Canyon Water Company, the arsenic is being handled; the district’s 2025 highest reading was 9.9 ppb, just under the limit. What those systems do not address is hardness, which is what scales your water heater and fixtures, or taste and chlorine at the tap. A softener and carbon filter are the usual additions (from $1,799 and $1,885, priced for planning until the contractor licenses issue). An under-sink reverse osmosis system from $829 is bookable and keeps the drinking water well under the arsenic limit.
