Should I test hauled water?
Test what comes out of your tap, not what went into the tank.
What matters is the water after storage, transport and your own plumbing. If you also have a well on the property, test that separately — 43.6% of Yavapai County samples in a peer-reviewed statewide analysis exceeded the EPA arsenic limit. The $185 Premium Water Test covers 53 parameters including bacteria.
Why does my stored water go bad after a few weeks?
Two reasons: the disinfectant residual dissipates, and warm tanks grow biology.
Sediment also settles and then gets stirred back up when the tank refills. UV disinfection at the point the water leaves the tank handles the biological side, and staged sediment filtration handles the rest. We size both from your tank volume and usage.
I am on a cistern, not a well. Can you still help?
Yes, and it is a different design.
Stored and hauled water needs sediment pre-filtration, carbon, and usually UV disinfection, plus a properly sized booster pump and pressure tank — a softener alone does nothing useful for tank water. Ash Fork Water Service’s own vending equipment uses 30- and 5-micron sediment stages, carbon block, a second carbon filter and UV, which is a reasonable model for what a cistern home needs. The UV and carbon packages are over $1,000, so they are priced for planning until the contractor licenses issue.
