Use towels, buckets, or a wet vacuum to contain spilled water. Move valuables away from wet areas, and take photos for your insurance as you go.
Turn on fans and open windows to increase air circulation. It helps prevent mold growth while you wait.
Avoid standing water, and do not use electrical appliances near wet areas. If the leak is near anything electrical, switch that area off at the breaker panel — without standing in water to do it. Sewage backing up? Stop using all water in the house immediately.
Leave the house first. Do not light a match, turn light switches on or off, use a phone, or do anything else that makes a spark near the smell, and do not try to work any valves yourself. From a safe place outside, call 911 and UniSource Energy Services’ 24-hour emergency line, 1-877-837-4968 (UniSource gas safety). On propane, call your propane company as well.

What each one needs first, and what CreekWell can do about it from November.
Broken or burst pipes can flood a room and do major water damage in minutes. Shut the main off first (step 1). From November, Neil finds the rupture and repairs or replaces the damaged section, quoted flat before he starts.
Frozen but not burst yet? Keep the faucet open, and never thaw a pipe with a blowtorch, kerosene or propane heater, charcoal stove or any other open flame. If you cannot find or reach the frozen spot, call a licensed plumber (American Red Cross).
Leaks in pipes beneath your home’s foundation can cause foundation damage and mold. Slab leak detection is $450 flat — equipment pinpoints the leak, no exploratory jackhammering — and the repair options come with prices before anything starts.
